WELCOME NOTE:
European Standard School Debate Club is aiming to set new standards in Bangladesh debating. Therefore, we present to you, Bangladesh Schools Debating Championship. This is a championship where we plan to deliver an experience similar to WSDC to the local debaters in Bangladesh.
This championship is going to follow the World Schools debating format, where each institution would be represented by one team, consisting of 5 members. There would be 8 rounds of preliminary debating where the match-ups, which would be made depending upon the Pre-Tournament rankings, for every round would be released before-hand. The pre-tournament ranking draw would be similar to the WSDC rules as far deciding who faces who and in which position, is concerned. There would be 3 adjudicator judging each debate, and every room's ballot would have a say on who is going to break. This is also how we can ensure good adjudication.
The finals would be followed by an international workshop which would be conducted by the CA, himself and THIS is the best part, we are looking forward to have an International Chief Adjudicator for the tournament!
So looking forward to have a debating blast!
Happy Debating till then...
TOURNAMENT INFO:
With
the success of hosting the 5th BDC Pre-World Schools Debating
Championship, which is the biggest English debating stage in all-over
Bangladesh, we are looking forward to host a debating tournament that
surpasses our previous achievements and reaffirms the club’s position in
the debating fraternity, as far as organizing is concerned. Therefore,
ESSDC presents to you, it’s own annual debating championship, ESSDC
Squared: Bangladesh Schools Debating Championship (BSDC) 2012.
This
tournament is like no other. We are determined to set a new trend in
this society, as to how debate tournaments should be conceived and
implemented, and how much more educational can this can be.And also, we
are aiming for the bigger goal of bridging the linguistic barrier of our
country, as much as possible, through this competition.
We
acknowledge and appreciate the efforts that has already been taken by
Bangladesh Debating Council (BDC) in order to ensure quality WSDC format
debating in the country, which like other debating schools, ESSDC wants
to extend it further by incorporating and replicating the core
principles, along with the other rules of WSDC to set-up an elite
tournament. Along with organizations like BDC and North South University
(NSU), we hope to deliver an experience, similar to World Schools
Debating Championship for the first time in Bangladesh.
Coming down to why ESSDC Squared: BSDC 2011 is special because for the first time in Bangladesh:
1. 16 Teams
We
would be having the top 16 institutions from all over Bangladesh
participating in BSDC 2011, making it the only national-level
interschool tourney having most of the WSDC formats and rules
implemented in Bangladesh. We would like to have more schools but it
would only down if the grid allows new schools to join in.
2. Pre-tournament match-up:
We
would be having for the first time, a pre tournament ranking, based on
the past 6 National-scale Interschool English debating competitions. A
grid would be announced based on the rankings and the draw.
3. The Adjudication Core:
For
the first time in Bangladesh, we are looking forward to have an
well-known international debate personnel to be our Chief Adjudicator,
along with 3 Deputy Chief Adjudicators.
4. The Adjudicators
We
would ensuring proper debating and quality adjudication by keeping the
adjudication “Invitational”, where we would be inviting only the good
adjudicators, with 3 adjudicators judging each debate.
5. 8 Preliminary Rounds of debating
We
would be holding for the first time in Bangladesh, 8 rounds of
preliminary debates. [4 rounds impromptu and the rest being prepared]
6. Ballot wins.
The
wins to all rounds would be decided as a ballot system that the
adjudicators would be casting, similar to WSDC, thus ensuring for the
first time equal number of judges in every room.
7. International Workshop
For
the first time in Bangladesh, the International Workshop would be taken
after the prelim rounds, so that we can have the best insights from the
CA, as these would allow him and the debaters to relate the workshop
with the debates done during the BSDC 2012 Prelims. We are trying hard
to ensure that the workshop is open for all schools and free for all,
something that is also for the first time.
8. Master Round
The demo debate would showcase Top 3 breaking judges vs. Top 3 debaters of BSDC.
That’s
why, to set a new way of hosting a debate competition brewing the
debaters up for the international challenge, we have taken it as our
responsibility to ensure proper methods of WSDC debating.
